ANIMAL Physiotherapy Services
Establishes Orthotics Service
- We have teamed up with a qualified orthotist to produce custom-made
human-quality orthotics for small animals!
-
- A special appointment is required to have your pet cast by Helen, then
the orthotic is made and a fitting appointment scheduled to ensure it fits
properly and to allow for any minor modifications if need be. In keeping
with providing human-standard safe care for your pet, a follow-up
appointment is required approximately one week later to ensure that as the orthotic "wears in" it remains comfortable and supporting your pet properly.
-
- Veterinarians can refer their clients directly for orthotics (ph/fax +61
2 4739 4557 or email info@k9physio.com)
or you can obtain a referral (also sometimes
- called a "history printout" and typically provided free if you phone to
request) from your Vet in order to bring your pet along specifically for our
orthotics service.
-
- Typical
indications for orthotics include:
- sciatic nerve deficits
("stepping on the wrong side of the back foot" as one example)
-
brachial plexus deficits (e.g. "stepping on the wrong side of the front
foot")
- to support after surgery (for
example, a hyperactive dog who is risking their cruciate ligament surgery)
-
to assist conservative management of orthopaedic conditions (non-surgical
management of cruciate ligament deficit, as one example)
- Please ask if you have any questions about whether an orthotic may help
your client or your pet - these are just a few examples of our orthotics.
